Wael AbdAlmageed is a Research Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Research Director at the Information Sciences Institute (ISI), both part of the University of Southern California's Viterbi School of Engineering. Previously, he worked at the University of Maryland from 2004 to 2013. He holds a Ph.D. (with Distinction) from the University of New Mexico and degrees from Mansoura University and the Information Technology Institute in Egypt.

His research focuses on representation learning, multimedia forensics, deepfake detection, and biometric systems. He leads major projects like DARPA’s MediFor, GARD, and LwLL, and IARPA’s Janus, Odin, and BRIAR. With over 90 publications in top venues (CVPR, NeurIPS, PAMI), his work spans computer vision, machine learning, and security.
Awards: Recognized with the 2019 USC ISI Achievement Award and the 2003 Outstanding Graduate Student Award.
He coordinates multi-institutional research initiatives and has directed teams advancing AI ethics and anti-spoofing technologies. His lab at ISI develops tools to combat visual misinformation and improve AI fairness.
