WG (Wim) Goettsch

Prof. WG (Wim) Goettsch is a Professor and Chair in Health Technology Assessment (HTA) of Pharmaceuticals at Utrecht University's Faculty of Science, Department of Pharmacoepidemiology and Clinical Pharmacology. He also serves as a Special Advisor at the Netherlands Healthcare Institute (ZIN), where he contributes to EU HTA initiatives. His roles include membership in the EU HTAR Coordination Group, Subgroup on Joint Scientific Consultations (JSC), and the EUnetHTA Board.

His research focuses on developing HTA methods to balance innovation and affordability in healthcare. Key areas include linking medicine reimbursement to treatment outcomes, leveraging clinical practice data for effectiveness assessments, and designing pan-European evaluation frameworks for medicines and devices. He led the EU-funded HTx project (2019–2024) and coordinates the Horizon Europe SUSTAIN-HTA initiative (2024–present).

Prof. Goettsch has held leadership roles, including Director of EUnetHTA JA3 (2016–2020) and Deputy Secretary of the Medicinal Products Reimbursement Committee at ZIN (2010–2013). He advises on HTA methodologies, market authorization processes, and clinical guideline development across Europe.
