Volker Lipp is a Professor at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, holding the Chair of Civil Law, Civil Procedure Law, Medical Law, and Comparative Law since 2000. He is the founding director and board member of the Göttingen Center for Medical Law and has served in leadership roles at the Göttingen Institute for Notarial Law.

Volker Lipp has held visiting professorships at institutions including Chuo University (2017), the University of Bergen (since 2015), and Paris-Nanterre University (since 2020). His legal expertise was critical in representing the German federal government before the Federal Constitutional Court in 2024 in a case concerning compulsory treatment in adult guardianship law.
