Vivek Gupta

Dr. Vivek Gupta is an Associate Professor and Head of the Vision Sciences Group at Macquarie Medical School, Macquarie University. He holds fellowships from NHMRC (Dementia Leadership and Career Development) and is a neurobiologist specializing in retinal neurodegeneration mechanisms across diseases like glaucoma, macular degeneration, and Alzheimer's. His research employs transgenic models, gene therapy, and clinical studies, with collaborations spanning Australia, India, the USA, and Europe.

Education: PhD, FRCPath (Royal College of Pathologists), FHEA (Fellow of the Higher Education Academy). Postdoctoral training in Switzerland and the USA. Over 170 peer-reviewed publications and 29 active/recent research projects.

Research focuses on: 1) Retinal biomarkers for Alzheimer's via amyloid beta accumulation studies, 2) Neuroprotective therapies for glaucoma using RXR agonists, and 3) Correlating retinal/optic nerve changes with brain imaging in aging and dementia.

Selected grants include AI-enhanced CT image analysis for bone healing (2024–2025) and vascular contributions to dementia research (2022–2026).
