Vitor Castro is a Reader in Economics at Loughborough University since December 2016. Previously, he served as Lecturer (2009–2016) and Teaching Assistant (2001–2009) at the Faculty of Economics, University of Coimbra, Portugal, and began his academic career as a Research Assistant at the University of Minho (1999–2001). He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Warwick and MSc/undergraduate degrees in Economics from the University of Minho.
His research focuses on economic event duration analysis using innovative change-points techniques, alongside business cycle dynamics, financial crises, political economy, and policy impacts. He has published extensively in top journals and co-authored Introduction to Econometrics. He serves as Associate Editor of Economic Modelling and Editorial Board member of the European Journal of Political Economy, and is part of Loughborough's Digital Decarbonisation Group.
