Violetta Steeples

Violetta Steeples is a Research Assistant at the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, University of Oxford. She holds a BSc (Hons) and a DPhil. Her work focuses on utilizing induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) to model inherited cardiomyopathies, with a particular interest in genome-editing and the physiological and biochemical effects of cardiomyopathy-associated mutations.

Dr. Steeples' research interests center on cardiovascular disease, stem cell modeling, genome editing, and cardiac physiology. She employs iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes to investigate the mechanisms of inherited cardiomyopathies, including the role of mutations in genes such as myosin binding protein C. Her work also extends to metabolism in heart failure and RNA splicing in hematological disorders, reflecting a broad expertise in molecular and cellular cardiology.

She is currently affiliated with the Toepfer Group (Cardiac Physiology and Disease Modeling) and the Watkins Group (Inherited Heart Muscle Disease), where she continues her research using iPSC-derived models of cardiomyopathy.
