Violeta Detcheva

Violeta Detcheva is a DSc Professor of Theater Studies at the New Bulgarian University. She holds a PhD in Theater Studies and a ScD in Art Studies from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, with specialization at Freie Universitaet Berlin.

• Research focuses on 20th-century theater theory, postcommunist cultural transitions, and German-language dramaturgy reception.
• Recipient of DAAD, Advanced Akademia, and Landis&Gyr research grants.
• Active participant in international research projects across Germany, Austria, and Poland.

  Notable Publications include her 2016 book Crises of the National Theater and collaborative works on Dimiter Gotscheff. Her scholarship bridges national identity and political ideologies in theatrical contexts.

  Academic Leadership includes jury roles at international theater festivals and editorial board memberships in theater studies publications. She co-edits the Sledva journal and curates NBU's New Play Competition.
