Vincent Fugère

Vincent Fugère serves as an Assistant Professor and Research Chair Holder (UQTR Jr Chair in Aquatic Wildlife Conservation) in the Department of Environmental Sciences at the University of Quebec at Trois-Rivières. His work focuses on freshwater ecosystem resilience amid human-induced environmental stressors across North American landscapes.

Dr. Fugère's research integrates field surveys, statistical modeling, and experimental approaches to examine cumulative impacts of watershed deforestation, agricultural pollution, and climate change on freshwater biodiversity. His lab employs machine learning with large-scale datasets to quantify anthropogenic drivers of ecological change, while advancing non-invasive survey methods like environmental DNA metabarcoding and underwater imaging systems for stream monitoring.

He holds the UQTR Jr Chair in Aquatic Wildlife Conservation award recognizing his contributions to aquatic conservation science.

As director of the Stream Ecology Lab (Laboratoire d'écologie des cours d'eau) within UQTR's RIVE watershed research center, he leads collaborative projects with government agencies and NGOs. Current initiatives include analyzing multitrophic diversity responses in the St-Lawrence River floodplain, developing functional trait-based vulnerability assessments for stream organisms, and comparing traditional versus emerging biomonitoring techniques across southern Quebec's headwater streams.
