Vincent Favier

Vincent Favier is a Research Fellow at the Leibniz-Zentrum Moderner Orient (Leibniz Center for Modern Oriental Studies), focusing on the intersection of religiosity and academic life within West African universities. His project, Preaching and Teaching: Religiosity, Knowledge, and Performance at the Université Abdou Moumouni de Niamey, Niger, examines how religious practices shape social interactions, knowledge transmission, and campus culture.

• Research Themes: Anthropology of Religion, Visual Anthropology, Social Anthropology, Ethnography, Performance Studies, and West African Studies.

The study, conducted in collaboration with IFRA Nigeria and LASDEL, employs ethnographic methods, including an ethnographic film, to analyze the performative aspects of academic and religious practices. His work highlights tensions between academic knowledge and religious frameworks, particularly among Salafi and Pentecostal communities.
