About
Vinayak Mathur serves as Assistant Professor of Biology at Cabrini University and is an active faculty member in the Science Education Alliance-Phage Hunters Advancing Genomics and Evolutionary Science (SEA-PHAGES) program, a national initiative funded by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI).
His research focuses on bacteriophage genomics and microbiology, with core expertise in:
- Bioinformatics analysis of phage genomes
- Evolutionary biology of bacteriophages
- Microbial host-pathogen interactions
- Genomic annotation techniques
- Undergraduate research pedagogy in genomic sciences
Dr. Mathur has directed multiple SEA-PHAGES course sections since 2019, including primary instruction for Bioinformatics courses (Spring 2019: 8 students; Spring 2023: 15 students) and collaborative instruction for Virus Discovery courses (Fall 2019: 9 students; Fall 2021: 11 students), utilizing Arthrobacter species as bacterial hosts. His teaching methodology integrates computational genomics with wet-lab microbiology to advance phage discovery and annotation.
As a dedicated educator in the SEA community, he participates in program workshops and symposia to advance genomic science education nationwide.
