Associate Professor Vimalin Rujivacharakul holds dual affiliations at the University of Delaware (College of Arts & Sciences, Art History Department) and Tsinghua University (School of Architecture as 2021-2024 Visiting Professor). A Clare Hall lifetime fellow at University of Cambridge, her work bridges architectural history with material culture studies. She leads international collaborations on preservation of vernacular architecture in China and transnational aesthetics research funded by the Terra Foundation.
- Education: PhD from UC Berkeley in architectural history, intellectual history, and cultural anthropology
Research focuses on cartographic history (16th-18th c.), global collecting practices, and 20th-century architectural historiography. Recent projects include the Multiple Middles digital exhibition (2022) and the Between Monumental and Vernacular Architecture initiative (2015-present). Supervises PhD students exploring materiality, East Asian trade artifacts, and UNESCO site dynamics.
Recipient of prestigious fellowships including the Getty Research Institute, Mellon Foundation, and Terra Foundation grants. Current projects include a global architectural history (interwar period) and anthology on vernacular architecture & Orientalism.
