Vilde Schanke Sundet

Vilde Schanke Sundet is an Associate Professor at the Department of Media and Communication, University of Oslo (UiO), specializing in media industries, media policy, and youth media cultures. She leads the Global Natives? research project, investigating global platforms and youth entertainment media. Sundet has held roles as Deputy Chair of the Broadcasting Council (Kringkastingsrådet) and Vice Chair of ECREA's Media Industries and Cultural Production Section. Her work bridges academia and policy, with a focus on public service broadcasting and streaming dynamics.

Education & Career: Sundet earned a PhD in Media Studies (UiO, 2012) and a Cand.polit. in Media Studies (UiO, 2004). She has held postdoctoral positions at Inland University College (2014–2017) and served as a media policy advisor at Norway's Ministry of Culture (2010–2014). She has held visiting scholar roles at the University of Southern California, Aarhus University, and the University of Copenhagen.

Research Interests: Her work explores youth media consumption, global streaming platforms, media policy, and the transformation of public service broadcasting. She co-authored Television Drama in the Age of Streaming (2021) and TV – en innføring (2010), and her research frequently examines transnational media dynamics and audience engagement.

Grants & Projects: Funded by the Research Council of Norway, Sundet investigates how global platforms influence youth audiences and policy. Her projects include STREAM (streaming impacts on cultural industries) and DiSC (media policy field dynamics). She collaborates internationally, co-organizing the ECREA pre-conference on youth media and platforms.

Labs & Teams: Sundet’s work is part of UiO’s Institute of Media and Communication (IMK) and involves interdisciplinary teams addressing digital media challenges. Her research often intersects with industry stakeholders, policymakers, and global platform representatives.
