Dr. Vijayan K. Asari is the Ohio Research Scholars Endowed Chair in Wide Area Surveillance and Professor at the University of Dayton's Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He serves as Director of the Vision Lab: Center of Excellence for Computational Intelligence and Machine Vision. With over 700 publications including 142 peer-reviewed journal papers, his research spans image processing, computer vision, pattern recognition, machine learning, and high-performance embedded systems.
His research focuses on:
- Wide area surveillance visibility enhancement
- Object detection and tracking in motion imagery
- 3D scene reconstruction
- Human identification through biometrics
- Brain-machine interface systems
Publications demonstrate strong emphasis on neural network applications for environmental monitoring, 3D vision systems, and advanced pattern recognition techniques. Recent work focuses particularly on Arctic climate applications using deep learning.
