Vijaya Kumar

Professor Vijaya Kumar serves as Research Director at Harper-Hutzel Hospital and Associate Director of the Global & Urban Health Section at Wayne State University. He is affiliated with the Department of Emergency Medicine at WSU, where he has worked since 2012.

His research spans two major domains: cardiovascular diseases in emergency medicine and global health initiatives focusing on women's health and research capacity building in rural settings. Recent publications highlight his interdisciplinary work in medical imaging (MRI/CT for chest pain evaluation), global health (ED response modeling during pandemics), materials science (coating characterization), and biotechnology (biosurfactant production optimization).

As co-director of WSU's Global Health Research Collaborative (GHRC), he organized a 4-week international research training workshop with 38 participants from 20 countries. He plays active roles in journal editorial boards and professional research committees.
