Victoria Moten is a Lecturer in the Department of English at the University of Maryland and a doctoral candidate at Howard University specializing in African American Literature with a minor in Women’s Studies. She holds an M.A. in English Language and Literature from Clark Atlanta University.
Her research examines speculative fiction by Black women writers, exploring human-nature connections and place-based narratives. She has presented at the National Council for Black Studies, College English Association, and James Baldwin Conference. Her work appears in the anthology Introduction to Afrofuturism (Routledge 2024), and her creative writing is published in Obsidian, Maryland Bards Poetry Review, and Black Freighter Press.
Awarded the Hurston/Wright Fellowship, she has contributed to NEH-funded projects like Buried Blueprints of Black Education and the Smithsonian’s North Star Outreach Program. She teaches Black Diaspora Literature (CMLT235) and Academic Writing (ENGL101).
