Victoria Mason

Dr Victoria Mason is a Senior Lecturer in Politics and Global Studies at Murdoch University's School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences. She previously held tenured positions at the Australian National University (Canberra) and Lancaster University (UK). She teaches undergraduate and postgraduate units including POL133: Politics, Policy and Power; POL334: Middle East Politics and Security; POL306: The Politics of Human Rights; POL226: Sex and Gender Matters; and GOV612: Global Governance, Security and Economy. She has received multiple teaching awards for her research-led and student-centered approach.

Her research spans interdisciplinary fields with a focus on:

• Human rights, justice issues, and social justice
• Refugee studies, forced migration, and displacement
• Middle Eastern/North African politics and history (especially Palestine)
• Conflict resolution, peace studies, and critical security
• International law dynamics and global governance

Her publications consistently explore themes of displacement, identity, state violence, and resistance across the Middle East and Australia. Recent works analyze forced migration patterns, Palestinian rights struggles, Islamophobia in Western societies, and humanitarian policy failures.

Grants & Advising:
She has secured research funding from the British Academy, Australian DFAT, AusAID, and International Studies Association. Currently, she supervises five postgraduate researchers working on:

• International Criminal Court justice barriers
• UN peacekeeping disaster risk reduction
• Indigenous Noongar leadership
• Women of color leadership in Australia
• Noongar astronomical knowledge preservation
