Victoria Ahrens

Victoria Ahrens is a Senior Lecturer at the London College of Communication (part of University of the Arts London), teaching across BA/MA Photography and Photojournalism programs. She holds a PhD in Photographic Practice and Theory (Birkbeck, 2017), investigating landscapes of trauma through photographic processes. Her work bridges art and ecology, using materials like chalk and shale to explore environmental degradation and memory.

Research & Exhibitions: Her practice includes site-specific projects (e.g., river Parana, Dorset’s Jurassic Coast), blending photography with material processes. Recent exhibitions include TJ Boulting Gallery (London), Galerie Fleur (Kyoto), and Studio Maragnone (Florence). She was awarded the Celeste Photography Prize (2013) and participated in the Royal Academy Summer Show.

Current Projects: Collaborates with the International Association of Photography and Theory on an exhibition in Cyprus (2018). Works on By a Long Chalk, investigating chalk’s geological and artistic significance in anthropocene landscapes.
