Victor Rizzo, PhD, FAHA, is a Professor in the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine, Temple University. His research focuses on molecular signaling mechanisms in vascular dysfunction, particularly exploring caveolae, mitochondria, and extracellular vesicles in diseases like atherosclerosis and aneurysm formation. His lab utilizes advanced microscopy, biochemistry, and in vivo/in vitro models to study organelle signaling in endothelial and smooth muscle cells.
Education: PhD in Cell Biology (Angiogenesis) from New Jersey Medical School, followed by postdoctoral training in Mechanotransduction at the University of Pennsylvania and Caveolae studies at Harvard Medical School. BS in Biology from Farleigh Dickinson University.
Key research areas include: caveolae as flow-sensing organelles, mitochondrial signaling in vascular health/disease, and extracellular vesicle-mediated communication. Recent work emphasizes mitochondrial fission's role in hypertension and aneurysm development, as well as therapeutic targeting strategies.
Selected achievements include FAHA fellowship recognition. Major publications span over 30 years, focusing on angiotensin II signaling pathways, vascular remodeling mechanisms, and organelle biology.
