About
Victor Mougel is an Associate Professor at the Department of Chemistry and Applied Biosciences, ETH Zürich, leading the Mougel Group focused on bioinorganic and bioinspired chemistry. His research bridges molecular catalysis with materials design for sustainable energy conversion, including CO2, NOx, and N2 reduction.
- Key research areas: heterogeneous catalysis, coordination chemistry, electrochemical CO2 conversion, and bioinspired materials
- Notable achievement: 2025 Ruzicka Prize for young Swiss chemists
Recent publications highlight his group’s work on iron-sulfur clusters, molybdenum β-diketonate complexes, and dendritic MoOx electrocatalysts. His team explores both molecular and nanostructured materials for applications in ammonia production, nitrate reduction, and CO2 valorization.
Scientific awards include the Ruzicka Prize. His group actively participates in outreach, including public lab events.
Collaborations span electrochemistry, materials science, and sustainable chemical processes. Students and postdoctoral researchers in his group contribute to patents and publications in high-impact journals like Nature Energy and Angewandte Chemie.
