About
Victor Artiga Rodriguez (born 1987, El Salvador) is an interdisciplinary artist and Assistant Lecturer for Media Theory at the University of the Arts Bremen since 2022. His practice explores poetry, bodily presence, and digital technologies through multimedia installations addressing decolonization, climate crisis, and cultural nostalgia. Exhibited internationally across El Salvador, Costa Rica, France, the US, Cuba, and Germany, his work challenges techno-consumer society through communal critical reflection.
His educational foundation includes:
- Master of Arts in Digital Media (2018-2022) at University of the Arts Bremen, supported by DAAD scholarship within Prof. Wendelien van Oldenborgh's Freie Kunst Klasse
- Bachelor of Fine Arts from Art Center College of Design, Pasadena (2015-2017)
- Diploma in Cultural Management from El Salvador's Ministry of Culture (2013-2014)
Artiga Rodriguez's research manifests through material hybridity—intertwining clay/ceramics with electronics to dissolve boundaries between organic and technological. Projects like 'The Paradoxical Myth of the Crazed Jaguar' examine colonial extraction in electronics production, while 'Data Poetry' uses humidity-sensored wet suits to reinterpret Salvadoran civil war poetry. His practice consistently confronts Western dualisms through embodied performance, positioning the body as critical site for climate and decolonial discourse.
His recognitions include:
- DAAD scholarship for graduate studies
- Stipendiat*innen der Zukunft fellowship at Künstlerhäuser Worpswede (2022)
- Official selection at Bremen Film Festival (2022)
As an educator, he integrates collective practice into pedagogy through Tremenda Corporea and prior co-curation of Circa 106 (2020-2022), which hosted residencies exploring artistic collaboration. His teaching emphasizes non-dualistic knowledge systems, evidenced by his Critical Aesthetics assistantship under Dr. Novoa Artigas. Current work focuses on 'Cartografias Liquidas', connecting artistic practice with climate activism in El Salvador.
Collective engagement defines his methodology: Tremendo Parche Latino (2019) challenged Latin American artist exotization in Germany, evolving into Tremenda Corporea with Rahel Jüngling and Carla Anacker. This collective develops projects like 'Bodies of Resonance', where ceramic resonators at Lake Werdersee transform audience participation into environmental soundscapes, demonstrating his commitment to communal artistic experiences.
