Vicky Avery

Distinguished Professor Vicky Avery directs drug discovery research at Griffith University, focusing on antiparasitic agents and cancer therapeutics. Her laboratory develops high-content screening platforms for antimalarial compounds and investigates trypanosomal drug targets.

Research spans medicinal chemistry, chemoproteomics, and natural product drug discovery targeting Plasmodium, Trypanosoma, and Leishmania parasites. Recent breakthroughs include novel enzyme inhibitors, quinine-inspired antimalarials, and preclinical candidates for neglected tropical diseases.

Leadership includes coordination of the ACRF Centre for Compound Management and international collaborations with Medicines for Malaria Venture. Laboratory resources support high-throughput screening and advanced chemoproteomics capabilities.
