Dr. Veronica Hicks_Dow is an Assistant Professor and Licensure Coordinator in the Department of Art Education at Virginia Commonwealth University. She is visiting Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) and the Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum from February 4–6, 2024, as part of the Dow Visiting Scholars & Artists Program. Her visit includes a cyanotype fabric printing workshop, a public lecture titled 'Realizing David Driskell’s Vision: The Role of African American Art in Shaping Our Collective Future', and collaborations with SVSU students and faculty.
Her research focuses on preparing pre-service art teachers to address race, gender, and ability dynamics in education, with a particular emphasis on the experiences of women of color and students with disabilities. She holds a dual Ph.D. in Art Education and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.
Previously a PreK-12 art teacher, Dr. Hicks_Dow currently serves as the Virginia Art Education Association’s Research Representative. Her work centers on policy, power structures, and inclusive pedagogical practices.
