Vera Tang

Dr. Vera Tang is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Medicine and serves as Facility Manager for the Flow Cytometry Core Facility. She holds a BSc in Life Sciences from Queen's University and a PhD in Immunology from McMaster University.

Dr. Tang's research focuses on Nanoscale Small particle flow cytometry, particularly Extracellular vesicles and Viruses, with emphasis on Flow cytometry data standardization and calibration methods. She develops protocols for detecting subcellular particles and addresses biosafety challenges in shared resource laboratories during global health crises.

Her publications analyze flow virometry applications in viral detection, extracellular vesicle characterization, and instrument calibration. Key trends include Biosafety optimization, reference material development, and cross-platform data standardization. Notably, she contributed to MIFlowCyt-EV guidelines for single extracellular vesicle analysis.

Dr. Tang leads the Flow Cytometry Core Facility, ensuring operational compliance and technical innovation. Her work bridges Biomedical Engineering and Immunology to enhance detection limits of flow cytometers for biological nanoparticles.
