Vera Fennell is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at Lehigh University, with a focus on comparative politics and global studies. She holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Political Science from the University of Chicago and an A.B. in East Asian Studies from Princeton University.

Her research interests span Comparative Politics, Chinese Politics, Gender Politics, Global Racial Identities, Global Studies, and Africana Studies. She has taught courses such as Introduction to Global Studies, Comparative Politics, and specialized seminars on China-Africa relations, film soft power, and gender movements.
Professional experience includes legislative work with Congressman Charles B. Rangel and the New York City Mayor’s Office, research roles at The Ford Foundation, Human Rights Watch, and the Hubert Humphrey Institute, and ongoing membership on the Executive Board of the Chinese in Africa/Africans in China Research Network.
