Vera Borges

Vera Borges is a sociologist and Researcher at CIES-Iscte, specializing in cultural policy, artistic work, and theater organizations. She holds a PhD in Sociology from EHESS and UNL, with postdoctoral work at ICS-UL and Iscte-IUL.

Her research examines cultural labor markets, urban cultural dynamics, and policy impact through projects like the National Survey of Portuguese Cultural Practices (2020) and Archiving Theater (2022-2025). She analyzes how austerity and pandemic crises reshape cultural organizations and artistic careers.

She has received the António Sérgio Prize (2001) and CIES Award (2023). Her work informs European cultural policy frameworks and Portuguese public policy, particularly through collaborations with the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and DGArtes.
