Professor Venetia Evergeti is a Professor of Sociology and Associate Head (Education) at the School of Social Sciences, University of Surrey. She holds BA (Hons), MA, and PhD qualifications. Her research focuses on Interactionist Sociology, Qualitative Methods, Transnational Families, and EDI in Higher Education, with notable work on Muslim minorities in Greece and migration studies. She co-led an AHRC-funded project (2010-2012) examining religion's role in belonging among indigenous and migrant Muslim communities.
Teaching excellence was recognized via the 2023 Vice-Chancellor's Teacher of the Year Award. She currently supervises PhD students researching cultural tolerance, sickle cell disease impacts, and Polish migration in UK schools. Completed PhDs include studies on Greek youth post-2008 crisis and Chinese transnational university identity.
Teaching spans 15 years, covering sociological theory, migration, race, gender, and transnationalism across undergraduate and postgraduate modules. Research outputs include seminal work on social capital, migration, and transnational family dynamics.
