Vasant Kumar

Professor Vasant Kumar is a Distinguished Research Fellow and Professor of Materials Chemistry at the University of Cambridge, affiliated with the Department of Materials Science & Metallurgy. He holds adjunct roles at institutions in China and India, including Guest Professorships at Nankai University and Honorary Engineering Degrees. His research focuses on batteries (Li-S, Li-ion), environmental sustainability, fuel cells, sensors, and metallurgical processes. He has authored over 380 papers, secured 25 patents, and supervised over 45 PhD students and 45 postdocs.

Qualifications include a PhD from McMaster University and a BTech from IIT Bombay. He is a Fellow of Trinity Hall, Royal Society of Chemistry, and Energy Institute. His awards include the Kroll Medal (2014) and Honorary Doctorate (2011).

He leads research on energy storage, recycling, and circular economy, collaborating with global institutions like EPSRC, Innovate UK, and companies like Ever Resource and Regenerate Inc. His start-ups include EMCLimited (high-temp sensors) and Solutions4Hydrogen (hydrogen measurement).

Editorial roles include Editor-in-Chief of Mineral Processing & Extractive Metallurgy and Battery Materials. He organizes international conferences on sustainable batteries and electrochemical processes.
