Vari Wileman

Dr. Vari Wileman is a Lecturer in Psychology Education at King’s College London, based in the Health Psychology Section within the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience. She co-leads the Psychology and Healthcare Delivery module for the MSc Health Psychology program and contributes to the Neuroscience, Behaviour and Social Science segment in the GTK School of Medical Education. Her research focuses on developing psychological interventions to improve treatment adherence and healthcare outcomes for individuals with chronic conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and chronic pain. She has led studies on behavioral change techniques, including the use of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in physiotherapy for chronic low back pain and the design of digital interventions like IBD-BOOST for symptom management. Key research interests include understanding the psychological factors influencing healthcare behaviors, training healthcare professionals in evidence-based interventions, and evaluating the efficacy of patient-centered approaches. She has collaborated on projects like the TANDEM study, which assessed COPD management interventions, and the IBD-BOOST program, addressing symptom clusters in IBD. Her contributions span clinical trials, qualitative evaluations, and methodological innovations in behavioral health.
