Vanessa Berry is a Lecturer in Creative Writing at the University of Sydney, affiliated with the Discipline of English and Writing within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. She holds a BA(Hons) from UTS and a PhD from Macquarie University.
Her research explores literary nonfiction, memoir, experimental autobiography, and creative cartography, with a focus on urban spaces, material culture, and subcultural practices. Notable works include Gentle and Fierce (2021) and Mirror Sydney: An Atlas of Reflections (2017). Current projects include Calendar, an object-memoir, and 24 Hour Autobiography, studying feminist temporal practices.
Awards include the Mascara Avant Garde Literary Award (2018) and Woollahra Digital Literary Award (2017). She advises three PhD students and engages with organizations like the Australian Association of Writing Programs. Berry’s creative work bridges writing and visual arts, exhibited internationally, including at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia.
