Dr. Van Nguyen is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Fenner School of Environment & Society, Australian National University (ANU), and holds adjunct roles at Griffith University (Adjunct Associate Professor) and the University of New England (Adjunct Senior Research Fellow). He also serves as an Adjunct Professor at Cambodia's Royal University of Agriculture and a senior advisor at An Giang University's Climate Change Institute. His research focuses on sustainable agriculture, agroecology, and climate change adaptation in the Mekong Region.
Education: PhD in Sociology (ANU, 2013), Master in Environmental Management (ANU, 2006), and BSc in Land Management (Can Tho University, 2000). He previously led the Research Centre for Rural Development (RCRD) and now advises its successor, the Climate Change Institute (CCI).
Research Interests: Promoting ecological agriculture, organic certification, and food security through multidisciplinary partnerships. He has led 16 international projects, including initiatives funded by Australia’s DFAT, and co-founded Mekong Organics PTY LTD to translate research into policy.
Key Projects: Development of floating rice-based farming systems, assessment of dike impacts on livelihoods, and digital instrumentation for nuclear reactors. Collaborations span NGOs, governments, and private sector actors across Vietnam, Cambodia, and Australia.
Labs/Teams: Active in ANU’s Fenner School, Griffith University’s medical programs, and Mekong Organics’ policy advocacy. His work emphasizes stakeholder engagement for sustainable development.
