Valter Giaretto

Valter Giaretto is a Full Professor at the Department of Energy (DENERG) within Politecnico di Torino, Italy. He is also a member of the Interdepartmental Center PolitoBIOMed Lab (Biomedical Engineering Lab) and the ThEAM research group. His academic career spans over three decades, with roles as University Researcher (1990), Associate Professor (1997), and Full Professor (2005). He has taught foundational engineering courses in applied thermodynamics and heat transfer, including at the University of Rome Tor Vergata and the University of Turin.

Research Focus: Giaretto specializes in transport phenomena, with emphasis on thermophysical, thermo-optical, and thermoelectric properties of materials. His work includes determining conductivity, diffusivity, and Seebeck coefficients, alongside applications in sustainable technologies, composite materials (CFRP, Titanium-Honeycomb), and biomedical engineering (cryogenic probes). He aligns with ERC sectors PE11_14 (Computational Materials Engineering) and PE3_3 (Condensed Matter Transport), supporting UN SDGs 7 (Affordable Energy) and 11 (Sustainable Cities).

Recent Publications: Giaretto's recent studies explore nano-enhanced phase change materials for energy storage, thermal modeling in additive manufacturing, and experimental TEG device analysis. He also investigates rice straw's bioenergy potential and thermal behavior of composites.

Projects & Patents: He has led competitive research projects (e.g., PRIN-funded thermophysical property estimation) and commercial contracts in thermal simulation. A co-inventor of a patent for thermoelectric device measurement methods with Andrea De Marchi.

Teaching: Giaretto has held teaching roles across Energy Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, and Industrial Engineering programs since 2019–2020, including courses like Applied Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer and Energy Systems Laboratory.
