Valeriy M. Yashchuk is a Professor at the Experimental Physics Department, Faculty of Physics, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. He has held academic positions at the university since 1971, progressing from Engineer-Researcher to his current role as Professor (since 2002) and former Head of the Experimental Physics Department (2003-2017). He has led the Research Group of Photonics of Organic Media since 1983.
- Master degree in Optics of Solid State (1971)
- Pd.D. (1983)
- Doctor of Science (2001)
Professor Yashchuk's research focuses on electronic processes in organic materials, with particular emphasis on luminescent spectroscopy, photonics of organic media, and applications in biomedicine. His work spans fundamental physics of electronic excitations in polymers and biomolecules to applied research in cancer therapy and optoelectronic devices. He investigates energy transfer mechanisms in organic systems, spectral properties of DNA and RNA, and develops nanosystems for X-ray photodynamic therapy of cancer. His research also extends to OLED materials and sensor systems with optical response.
Analysis of his recent publications reveals a strong focus on nanotechnology applications in biomedicine, particularly in cancer treatment through photodynamic therapy. His work combines physics, chemistry, and biology to develop novel therapeutic approaches. The research shows consistent investigation of electronic excitation energy transfer processes across various organic systems, from simple molecules to complex biological structures. There is also significant work on spectroscopic characterization of biomolecules and development of optical sensors.
Professor Yashchuk maintains an active research program with a multidisciplinary team comprising physicists, chemists, and biologists. His laboratory investigates electronic processes in organic materials using advanced spectroscopic techniques including UV-vis spectroscopy, luminescence measurements at various temperatures, time-resolved phosphorescence, and polarization studies. The research group collaborates extensively across disciplines to address complex problems at the intersection of physics, chemistry, and biology.
