About
Valerio Scarani is a Professor at the Department of Physics within the School of Science at the National University of Singapore (NUS), where he joined in 2007. He serves as Deputy Director of the Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT). His research focuses on theoretical quantum science, particularly in quantum information, Bell nonlocality, device-independent certification, and quantum thermodynamics.
- Education: PhD from École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland (2000)
- Key Research Areas:
- Device-independent quantum certification
- Information-thermodynamics interplay
- Gravity effects on quantum sources
- Bell nonlocality foundations
- Quantum state smoothing
Recent publication trends highlight four major directions:
- Time-evolution-based quantumness certification (e.g., harmonic oscillator dynamics)
- Epistemic approaches to the Second Law through Bayesian retrodiction
- Gravitational effect detection in quantum superposition states
- Foundational work on Tsirelson inequalities and entanglement witnesses
