Valerie MacPhail

Valerie MacPhail is an Associate Professor of Voice and Assistant Director of the Petrie School of Music at Converse College. She teaches undergraduate and graduate voice majors while also mentoring younger students in the Lawson Academy of the Arts.

Educational Background:

• Bachelor of Arts (BA) - The College of William and Mary

Her performance career includes over 30 solo vocal recitals across the U.S. with chamber music collaborations. Notable roles: Beethoven's Ninth Symphony soprano soloist, Countess in Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro, Sister Constance in Poulenc's Dialogues of the Carmelites, and originating roles in world premieres by Dr. S. David Berry.

Professional activities include directing the Hub City Vocal Institute (2017-2018) and serving on the summer faculty of the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities. Her students have achieved success in national competitions and gained admission to top music conservatories.
