Valeria Procupez is a Lecturer in the Department of Anthropology at Johns Hopkins University's Krieger School of Arts & Sciences. Her research examines urban studies, theories of space and place, anthropology of architecture, urban commons, social-movement urban planning, housing policies, and squatting practices.
Her primary geographic focus is Latin America, where she conducts long-term research with urban social movements in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She investigates how principles of horizontalism and autonomy shape participants' daily lives and organizational structures within urban political networks.
Dr. Procupez maintains office hours in Mergenthaler Hall where she advises students on urban anthropology research methodologies and theoretical approaches to studying informal settlements and community-led urban development.
