About
Valérie Marchi is a CNRS Research Director at the University of Rennes 1's Institut des Sciences Chimiques de Rennes (ISCR). Her research focuses on nanoparticle synthesis, self-assembly, and their applications in bio-imaging, energy conversion, and biomaterials. She has contributed significantly to understanding directed self-assembly processes using organic templates and lipid membranes, as well as photoelectrochemical systems for biofuel cell development. Her work bridges nanotechnology and biophysics, with applications in materials science and biomedicine.
Education: Engineer diploma and Master's in Physical Chemistry from ESPCI Paris (1994), PhD in Supramolecular Chemistry under Prof. Jean-Marie Lehn (Collège de France), postdoc at TU München (Germany) with Prof. Erich Sackmann.
Research Themes:
- Semiconductor nanoparticle self-assembly for SERS substrates and biochips
- Biohybrid systems: enzyme-catalyzed photo-redox reactions using quantum rods
- Magnetic nanoparticle-based cytoskeleton manipulation
- Lipid membrane fusion mechanisms and biomimetic cell adhesion models
Publications: Over 50 peer-reviewed articles in top journals like ACS Nano, Langmuir, and Nature Nanotechnology, with focus on nanoparticle-enabled bioimaging, energy systems, and biomaterials.
Labs: ISCR-CNRS UMR 6226, leading a multidisciplinary team at the interface of chemistry, physics, and biology.
