Vadim Kravchinsky

Vadim Kravchinsky is a Professor of Geophysics at the University of Alberta’s Department of Physics within the Faculty of Science. His research focuses on geophysics, paleomagnetism, climate dynamics, and tectonics. He holds a PhD from Irkutsk State Technical University and has held academic roles since 2002, progressing from Assistant to Professor by 2014. Kravchinsky leads a laboratory specializing in paleomagnetism and petromagnetism, with affiliations to the Institute for Geophysical Research.

Education: PhD in Geophysics (Irkutsk State Technical University), B.Sc./M.Sc. in Geophysics. Work experience includes postdoctoral roles at the University of Alberta and visiting fellowships at institutions like the Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris.

Research interests emphasize climate-paleoclimate links, plate tectonics, and paleomagnetic reconstructions. Current students include Aram Moradi (Ph.D.), Masoud Mirzaei Souzani (Ph.D.), and Faustina Awafu (M.Sc.).

Key grants include a Canada Foundation for Innovation award (2003). His lab’s equipment includes cryogenic magnetometers and field instruments for geophysical surveys. Recent work explores orbital forcing on Asian climates and geomagnetic field behavior.
