About
Prof. Uwe Karst is a Chair of Analytical Chemistry at the University of Münster, Germany, leading the Karst Lab focused on mass spectrometric bioimaging and elemental speciation. His research integrates advanced analytical techniques like µXRF, LA-ICP-MS, and MALDI for biomedical and pharmaceutical applications. He contributes to the Collaborative Research Center 1450 (inSight), investigating organ-specific inflammation via multiscale imaging.
- Education: Born 1965, PhD (1993, Münster), Habilitation (1998, Münster). Previous roles include Chair at University of Twente (2001–2005) and current Chair at Münster since 2005.
- Teaching: Offers courses in analytical chemistry methods, instrumental analysis, and workshops on EC/MS, TXRF, and bioimaging.
- Research Interests: Hyphenated analytical techniques, metallomics, toxicology of contrast agents, and drug delivery mechanisms.
His awards include the Fresenius Prize (2009, GDCh). Over 100 publications span elemental bioimaging, speciation analysis, and applications in medicine. His lab is actively involved in training students and hosting international collaborations.
