Ute A Lehrer

Professor Ute A Lehrer is a faculty member at York University within the Faculty of Environmental and Urban Change, where she serves as the Program Coordinator for Planning. She holds a PhD in Urban Planning from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a Lic.phil. in History of Arts & Architecture, Sociology, and Economic & Social History from the University of Zurich.

Research Interests

Her work focuses on Global Suburbanism, Urban Form, and Political Economy of the Built Environment, with specific attention to high-rise living, public space dynamics, and land governance. Her recent SSHRC-funded projects include studies on public space and high-rise buildings during the pandemic and global suburban infrastructure. Her publications explore suburban identities, condominium development, and urban inequalities.
