Urs von Stockar is an Honorary Professor at EPFL's School of Basic Sciences (SB), affiliated with the Department of Chemical Engineering (SB-DEC) and PH-SB units. He holds a Guest status at EPFL, working in CH F0 494.
Education: Chemical Engineering Diploma from ETH Zurich (1967), PhD from ETH Zurich (1972), and postdoctoral work at UC Berkeley (1973–1976).
Research focuses on mass transfer, biotechnology, bioenergetics, and biothermodynamics. His team pioneered processes for monoclonal antibodies protecting human mucous membranes through collaborations with UNIL and ISREC.
Leadership roles include heading EPFL's Chemical Engineering Institute (1978/79, 1989/90), Department of Chemistry (1982/83, 1993/95), and serving as President of the European Federation of Biotechnology (1996–97). He also led Switzerland's Biotechnology Coordinating Committee since 1991.
