Dr Uri Horesh is a Lecturer (Education and Research) in Arabic Studies at the University of St Andrews and an Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Department of Language and Linguistics at the University of Essex. They hold a PhD in Sociolinguistics from the University of Essex (2014) and served as a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow at Essex (2016–2019). Their roles include teaching linguistics, translation, and Arabic across institutions in the US, Palestine, and the UK.
Dr Horesh's research focuses on sociolinguistics, particularly language variation, contact, and historical dynamics in the Middle East. They specialize in Arabic, Hebrew, and Yiddish dialectology. Notable works include co-editing The Routledge Handbook of Arabic Sociolinguistics (2019) and co-authoring the textbook Arabic Sociolinguistics (Cambridge, 2022). Their research examines Palestinian dialects, bilingualism (Arabic-Hebrew), and sociopolitical influences on language use.
Awards include the British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship (2016–2019). They supervise PhD students in sociolinguistics and related fields. Current research explores digital sociolinguistics, Palestinian dialects in diaspora, and language contact phenomena.
