About
Unn Conradi Andersen is an Associate Professor at the Kristiania University College, affiliated with the School of Arts, Design and Media and the Westerdal Institute for Creativity, Storytelling and Design. Her research focuses on media representation, counterpublics, and identity politics within marginalized communities.
In 2017, she co-authored the article Talking Back: Bikers’ Mediated Self-Representation, analyzing how Norwegian bikers use social media to challenge mainstream media narratives. The study compared coverage in local/regional/national newspapers with discourse on PayBack Norway’s Facebook page, revealing tensions between criminalization and humanizing self-representation. Key findings included the dominance of victim discourse in biker counterpublics and the exclusion of positive narratives from national media.
Her academic work intersects with theories of Nancy Fraser and Jürgen Habermas on public spheres, emphasizing power dynamics in media ecosystems. She holds a PhD from the University of Oslo (2014) on media negotiations of marriage and family identities.
