Ulaş Tezel serves as Vice Director of IESc and Associate Professor at Boğaziçi University's Institute of Environmental Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. from Georgia Institute of Technology (2009) and M.S./B.S. degrees from Middle East Technical University. His academic appointments include Associate Professor (2021-present) and Assistant Professor (2012-2020) at Boğaziçi University.
His research examines:
- Micropollutant fate in aquatic environments
- Bacterial biotransformation mechanisms
- Molecular genetics of pollutant degradation
- Catabolic mobile genetic elements
Current projects include SWAIN (IoT-driven watershed management) and studies on disinfectant biodegradation during the COVID-19 pandemic. His publications address global pharmaceutical pollution, analytical methods for emerging contaminants, bioreactor development, and micropollutant characterization in river systems.
