About
Udo Bach is a Professor in the Department of Chemical & Biological Engineering at Monash University, leading the Monash Node of the ARC Centre of Excellence in Exciton Science. His research focuses on photovoltaics and nanofabrication, particularly perovskite and dye-sensitized solar cells. He holds a PhD from EPFL (Switzerland) and has extensive postdoctoral experience at UC Berkeley. Notable projects include the development of quasi-interdigitated back-contact perovskite solar cells and novel electrolytes for tandem solar cells. He collaborates internationally and leads high-throughput energy materials discovery initiatives. His work addresses global energy challenges under UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Research interests include nanofabrication techniques (DNA-directed self-assembly, nanoprinting), plasmonics, and combinatorial materials discovery. He teaches MTE 3545 and MTE4597. Over 179 publications and 16 active/funded projects highlight his contributions to solar cell efficiency and stability. His group operates at Monash’s New Horizons Research Centre and the Melbourne Centre for Nanofabrication.
Key achievements include pioneering back-contact solar cell architectures and advancing perovskite microstructure characterization. Current projects focus on stealth coatings for defense and scalable perovskite fabrication. No listed awards, but his impactful research is recognized globally.
