Tyrrell Conway

Tyrrell Conway is a Regents Professor in the Department of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics at Oklahoma State University. An Oklahoma native and OSU alumnus, he returned to serve as Head of the Department of Microbiology.

His research centers on microbial physiology, metabolism, genomics, and pathogenesis, with pioneering work on E. coli functional genomics, carbon source utilization in intestinal colonization, and nutrient acquisition mechanisms in pathogenic strains. His studies directly address how pathogens outcompete native gut microbiota.

Scientific awards include:

• U.S. Patent 5,000,000 for E. coli biofuel engineering
• Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology

Conway leads an NIH-funded research team characterizing pathogenic E. coli nutrient scavenging systems, with implications for infectious disease control and microbial engineering applications.
