About
Trygve Helgaker is a Professor of Theoretical Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry, University of Oslo, and serves as Director of the Hylleraas Centre for Quantum Molecular Sciences, a Norwegian Centre of Excellence with over sixty members. His research focuses on molecular electronic-structure theory and quantum chemistry, particularly the interaction of molecules with electromagnetic fields and molecular properties under extreme conditions.
- PhD in 1986
- Sabbatical years at University of Cambridge and Durham University
- Member of the International Academy of Quantum Molecular Sciences
- Published over 300 articles with 34,000 citations (H-index: 86)
- Organized 13 international summer schools in theoretical chemistry
His work spans high-accuracy methods for small molecules, density-functional theory, and molecules in ultra-strong magnetic fields. He has contributed to the development of computational programs and co-authored the standard textbook Molecular Electronic-Structure Theory. Helgaker has supervised 16 PhD students and held an ERC Advanced Grant (2011–2016).
Scientific awards:
- ERC Advanced Grant
