Trudy Walp is a Lecturer and Online Program Manager in the Department of Literacy Teaching and Learning at the University at Albany's School of Education. She holds a CAS from the University at Albany and retired after 34 years as a reading specialist in public schools before transitioning to higher education. She teaches graduate courses in literacy instruction including ERDG 615 (Teaching Writing), ERDG 617 (Teaching Social Studies), and ERDG 625 (Integrated Literacy Instruction).
Her scholarly work focuses on innovative literacy approaches for elementary education, emphasizing authentic learning over standardized testing remediation. She has contributed to New York State educational policy as Chair of the PK-4 ELA Common Core Standards Workgroup and member of the State Literacy Team.
