Troy Schaum is an Associate Professor known for his architectural practice and research addressing post-megalopolitan urbanism, form innovation, and political representation. His work, conducted through the firm SCHAUM/SHIEH (founded in 2009 with Rosalyne Shieh), explores architecture’s role in transforming cities at building scale. The firm has completed projects globally, including masterplans for the Judd and Chinati Foundations in Marfa, Texas, and speculative urban proposals like the Kaohsiung Pop Music Center. Their work has garnered accolades such as AIA awards, the Architectural League’s Emerging Voices (2019), and inclusion in Domus’ 2020 Best Firms list.
Education: M.Arch. from Princeton University and B.Arch. from Virginia Tech. He teaches advanced design studios and courses on urban speculation, including ARCH 601 (Advanced Option Studio), ARCH 550 (Plausible Fictions), and ARCH 202 (Principles of Architecture IV).
Research interests focus on the intersection of architectural practice, urban theory, and cultural production.
