About
Tripti Bhattacharya is an Associate Professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Syracuse University's College of Arts and Sciences. Her research focuses on paleoclimatology, particularly understanding regional rainfall sensitivity to global climate change through geochemical proxies and climate models. She holds a Ph.D. in Geography from University of California, Berkeley (2016) and a B.Sc. in Environmental Science from Georgetown University (2010).
- Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Fellowship (2023-2025)
- American Geophysical Union Nanne Weber Early Career Award (2024)
- Laura J. and L. Douglas Meredith Teaching Recognition Award (2021)
Her research spans hydroclimate dynamics across multiple geological periods, with key projects analyzing tropical Atlantic variability's role in Mesoamerican droughts, midlatitude westerlies-monsoon interactions, and subtropical rainfall reorganization during past warm intervals. Recent publications examine calcium isotopes in Triassic-Jurassic boundary studies, Great Basin lithium deposits, and Pliocene moisture transport mechanisms. Current grants include multiple NSF awards for projects on deglacial hydroclimate, Walker circulation sensitivity, and collaborative paleoclimatology training programs.
As an editor for Geophysical Research Letters and active participant in NSF panels and university strategic planning, she contributes significantly to academic service. Teaching responsibilities include climate dynamics courses and professional development seminars, with leadership roles in departmental and university-wide committees.
