About
Trine Mogensen is a Professor in Infection Immunology at the Department of Biomedicine, Aarhus University, and a senior consultant in Infectious Diseases at Aarhus University Hospital. She holds dual affiliations within the Faculty of Health. Her research focuses on the genetic and immunological basis of severe infections and inborn errors of immunity, particularly viral infections in the central nervous system and SARS-CoV-2 pathogenesis. She leads several major initiatives, including the Horizon Europe consortium UNDINE and the Danish National Research Foundation Center of Excellence CiViA.
Education: MD (2002), PhD (2003), and DMSc (2009) from Aarhus University, with additional training at Université Descartes (Paris), the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
Research interests include viral immunopathogenesis, innate immunity mechanisms, and translational studies combining genomics and functional immunology. Key areas include HSV/VZV CNS infections, severe influenza, and post-COVID-19 syndromes. Her work aims to bridge clinical practice and basic science to improve diagnostics and treatments.
Professional roles include chair of the AU Health Inflammation Network, coordinator of UNDINE, and member of international steering committees like the COVID Human Genetic Effort. Teaching includes leading a PhD course on host-pathogen interactions and contributing to Aarhus University's Inflammation PhD program.
Grants and collaborations involve EU Horizon programs, Danish Innovation Funds, and international partnerships with institutions such as Twincore Hannover and Infection Mediterranée. Her research has produced over 150 publications, emphasizing immune mechanisms and genetic factors in infectious diseases.
